PETA’s Euthanasia Rates Have Critics Fuming, according to AOL News, and rightfully so.
“In 2009, PETA euthanized 2,301 dogs and cats — 97 percent of those brought in — and adopted only eight, according to Virginia state figures. And the rate of these killings has been increasing.”
That’s 2352 animals: 681 dogs, 1620 cats and 51 other companion animals.
A mere eight of them were saved.
Granted, PETA’s main function isn’t to run as an adoption agency, but eight animals? That’s just shameful. Where’s the ethical treatment in that? Was something wrong with them? Terminal illness? Injuries? Behavioral issues? Aggression? Were all of the dogs Pit bulls?

A dispute at a Lancaster movie theater during a screening of “Shutter Island” ended with someone plunging a meat thermometer into the neck of the man who complained about someone sitting near him talking on a cellphone during the show.

...
The incident occurred two weeks ago at the Cinemark 22 theater, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The theater was packed for a 9 p.m. Saturday screening of the Martin Scorsese film when the moviegoer complained about a woman near him using a cellphone.
The woman and two men with her left the theater. But sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said two men returned a few minutes later and stabbed the victim.
“It was a vicious and cowardly attack,” Whitmore said. The victim, who was not identified, was hospitalized with serious wounds.
Two moviegoers who came to the victim’s aid were also hurt during the fight, officials said.

The Vanderburgh County, Indiana, County Prosecutor is trying to save the children by banning anything above a “G” rating from Redbox, and other inexpensive, automated video rental systems—going so far as to backhandedly threaten a grocery store with a Class D felony.
But, as Consumerist points out, the real “brains” behind this effort isn’t parents, or even a particularly zealous religious group. It’s video rental stores, which stand to profit if $1-per-DVD-per-day Redbox can’t dispense anything other than cartoons.
“I’m not on a crusade,” said Paul Black, an Evansville attorney who says he suggested the inquiry to Levco’s office on behalf of a client who operates several video store locations. “We’re just looking for a level playing field here.”
